4th of July

We had a fun 4th of July this year!  Robin had to run into work for a few hours, so the kids and I slept late and made cupcakes.  The Hughey's had a few friends and kiddos over for a day of swimming and eating.  Richard did all the grilling and the wives did the baking and cooking!

**I have the hardest time selecting the best pictures so you will just have to see most of them, because this is for us**

I had plenty of decorations leftover from Alice's birthday party, so I sent Robin over ahead of us to deliver the goods and the cupcakes!

Chicken Wings and a counter full of Mac n Cheese, Connecuh Sausage & Potato Salad

The Grill Master and the guy who started "The Canon-Ball"

Wild Man enjoying wings, chips and cupcakes

Ryder and Alice

Sissy makes a jump to Daddy

The Dads and Kids took breaks from swimming to play this game? Forgot what it is called, looks like a bean bag toss to me, haha!

Wiley and Mr. Richard horsing around in baby rings

"You can't have my watermelon Ryder, we have plenty"

Lauren's Flag cake was Delicious

In the mix of all the fun, Alice managed a 2 hour nap inside! She is getting so easy, I've been looking forward to that...but....she is still a clinger! (I like it like that) haha

The biggest storm of the summer came that afternoon, it was a gully washer to say the least!  We, as in the Mommas and kids went inside to eat again (supper) while the crazy Daddy's stayed on the porch to watch the storm.  I was scared that we wouldn't get to shoot the fireworks that Rob and Wiley bought earlier that morning.  Thankfully when it was dark around 9 ish the rain held off!
We hurried home, changed clothes and headed out to Robin's parents, where my parents joined us too!

The fireworks they bought were GREAT! Alice liked them at first and then wanted to go inside.  We took them the weekend before to The Valley Grande firework show, she loved them then...because they were so far away ;)

His favorite firework is the one that has the parachute men.  He named his fish when he was 3 parachute after this firework.

Roman Candle, may FAV!

Happy 4th of July!

The Lincoln Supper

NOTE:  I am so behind on blogging.  We have had a fun and busy summer and blogging has been shoved to the back burner.  BUT, I am here and ready to update!  With that being said, I am going to back track and start with this past Sunday night.

Paul Garner is a hoot and you never know what is going to come out of his mouth or even his next step.  His sweet wife Jana just goes with the flow and I am so glad she did on this one.  You can find J's blog here  Paul on the way to work one day came up with The Lincoln Supper.  I am gonna describe this the best way I can, one reason because it is so much fun and you should try it too!!

The Lincoln Supper:  There were 4 cooking teams that had to prepare a meal for $5 (President Abraham Lincoln is on five dollar bill)  and that fed a family/or 4 people.  They had to keep up with receipts and all and had to present and go over every detail with the judges.  Robin and I were two to the 7 judges that night.  They also had one hour to cook and had to do so in front of us!!  It reminded me so much of The Food Network Show, Chopped.

Of course I had my camera in tow for this one.  Here are a few pictures of the night!!

I know you can't read this, but Paul went into major detail here

and....He "donated" the Lincoln Supper Prize

A few of the judges:  Rayne @ Osborn Originals, Baxter and James (Rayne's Hubby)

Bradford is going over her receipts and notes, making sure she is "legal"

Beth plating her Sausage and Rice Casserole

Bradford's Asian Shrimp (Hands down won Presentation Award)

Tara's Spinach Cheese and Bacon Quiche (out.of.this.world.) This was Robin's favorite that he voted for.  Strange because he doesn't not love spinach or onions) it was that GOOD!

Paul and Jana's "Christmas Fritatta" and a side of bread ;)

The cooking teams

The JUDGES getting a sample of each dish prepared.  I laugh every time I look at these pictures.  James ( I know you are reading ) the look on your face says it all.  HILARIOUS, that pepper is still stuck somewhere in my throat!

The top picture of everyone with their hand over their mouths, had to have been when Lee made the announcement that we (judges) decided that Paul's bread wasn't fit for a dog to eat.  hahaha!
And lastly Beth's dish won.  It was a lot of food for the money ($5) and was very filling and just the right amount of seasoning.  I do have to say that it was so hard to decide, because everyone did a wonderful job.

I can hardly wait for the next one.  Not sure what we are doing, but I am possibly going to cook.  YAY!!  Jana decided that we are gonna have about 4 more and on President's Day have a "Cook Off" between all of the winners!!

Now that I finally downloaded 489 pictures.  I have so many posts to catch up on.  Next up will be 4th of July and then our Beach Trip (which I will break down into several posts)
