The Lincoln Supper

NOTE:  I am so behind on blogging.  We have had a fun and busy summer and blogging has been shoved to the back burner.  BUT, I am here and ready to update!  With that being said, I am going to back track and start with this past Sunday night.

Paul Garner is a hoot and you never know what is going to come out of his mouth or even his next step.  His sweet wife Jana just goes with the flow and I am so glad she did on this one.  You can find J's blog here  Paul on the way to work one day came up with The Lincoln Supper.  I am gonna describe this the best way I can, one reason because it is so much fun and you should try it too!!

The Lincoln Supper:  There were 4 cooking teams that had to prepare a meal for $5 (President Abraham Lincoln is on five dollar bill)  and that fed a family/or 4 people.  They had to keep up with receipts and all and had to present and go over every detail with the judges.  Robin and I were two to the 7 judges that night.  They also had one hour to cook and had to do so in front of us!!  It reminded me so much of The Food Network Show, Chopped.

Of course I had my camera in tow for this one.  Here are a few pictures of the night!!

I know you can't read this, but Paul went into major detail here

and....He "donated" the Lincoln Supper Prize

A few of the judges:  Rayne @ Osborn Originals, Baxter and James (Rayne's Hubby)

Bradford is going over her receipts and notes, making sure she is "legal"

Beth plating her Sausage and Rice Casserole

Bradford's Asian Shrimp (Hands down won Presentation Award)

Tara's Spinach Cheese and Bacon Quiche (out.of.this.world.) This was Robin's favorite that he voted for.  Strange because he doesn't not love spinach or onions) it was that GOOD!

Paul and Jana's "Christmas Fritatta" and a side of bread ;)

The cooking teams

The JUDGES getting a sample of each dish prepared.  I laugh every time I look at these pictures.  James ( I know you are reading ) the look on your face says it all.  HILARIOUS, that pepper is still stuck somewhere in my throat!

The top picture of everyone with their hand over their mouths, had to have been when Lee made the announcement that we (judges) decided that Paul's bread wasn't fit for a dog to eat.  hahaha!
And lastly Beth's dish won.  It was a lot of food for the money ($5) and was very filling and just the right amount of seasoning.  I do have to say that it was so hard to decide, because everyone did a wonderful job.

I can hardly wait for the next one.  Not sure what we are doing, but I am possibly going to cook.  YAY!!  Jana decided that we are gonna have about 4 more and on President's Day have a "Cook Off" between all of the winners!!

Now that I finally downloaded 489 pictures.  I have so many posts to catch up on.  Next up will be 4th of July and then our Beach Trip (which I will break down into several posts)

xoxo!

First, I would like to thank you for not calling me out about the bread. What is that Lee said "not fit for a dog to eat." I thought I was going to fall out laughing. Thanks for playing with us. You know I thought it was totally just another one of Paul's crazy ideas - but did turn out to be tons of fun! I like Rayne's idea of doing all desserts next time.
